Oh dear. From WaPo:

Sen. John McCain championed legislation that will let an Arizona rancher trade remote grassland and ponderosa pine forest here for acres of valuable federally owned property that is ready for development, a land swap that now stands to directly benefit one of his top presidential campaign fundraisers].

Initially reluctant to support the swap, the Arizona Republican became a key figure in pushing the deal through Congress after the rancher and his partners hired lobbyists that included McCain’s 1992 Senate campaign manager, two of his former Senate staff members (one of whom has returned as his chief of staff), and an Arizona insider who was a major McCain donor and is now bundling campaign checks.

He was reluctant to support it until his campaign-manager-who-is-also-a-lobbyist, his former staffers, and a six-figure bundler were hired?

What is it that John Ruberry, Juliana “Dan Proft” Johnson, and other conservative partisans keep saying about having the judgment to be president?

We know what Sen. Obama says about that mythical McCain judgment: McCain has lost his bearings. Hopefully Sen. McCain won’t get so worked up at having been caught red-handed in this land benefits deal that he hops off and calls the reporter a dirty name.

PS: Regarding that spin from Johnson/Proft. She/he thinks she/he is being clever by myopically writing about:

the Senator’s cozy relationships with corrupt influence peddlers, domestic terrorists, and a hateful, bile-spewing spiritual advisor.

Corrupt influence peddlers? Based on this WaPo article, his Keating 5 role, and other questionable cozy lobbyist relationships I’d say that’s a big red check in McCain’s “corrupt influence peddler” box.

Domestic terrorists? Sen. McCain calls ex-convict G. Gordon Liddy his “good friend.” Liddy has given McCain $5000 over the years, including one grand this year. Liddy went to jail for his role in the Watergate break-in and, in his radio program, advocated shooting Federal agents in the head. Seems McCain has “domestic terrorist” covered also. (Then again, what is the tie-in for Sen. Obama? He served on a charitable board, went to a meet-and-great coffee event and got a whopping $200 from the object of Proft’s ire… Pretty flimsy six-degrees-of-separation there seeing as how Obama doesn’t call him his “good friend,” unlike McCain’s relationship to the ex-con, murder advocate.)

And hateful, bile-spewing spiritual advisor? Needless to say, Sen. Obama has forcefully and publicly renounced his former pastor. On the other hand, Sen. McCain puckered up and pursued the likes of radical Pastors John Hagee, Rod Parsley, etc. You don’t think conservative reverends like Hagee, et al are radical, hateful, and bile-spewing?

I hope you’re not Catholic

…and PPS: Proft lies again (he told a different lie earlier this week on Chicago Tonight).

In his screed against Obama, he claims Obama “earned an appointment to a State Senate seat in 1996.”

Wrong, the guy was elected. (Granted, there was no one else on the ballot, but that was because the others who turned in ballot access petitions violated the rules.)

Proft’s fibs are starting to look pathological.
