Illinois Review Editor and former worker for Alan Keyes for Senate (Illinois edition) Fran Eaton approvingly posts a Tribune cartoon making light of Sen. Obama’s “Kingdom on Earth” speech.
When did these folks who claim to be Christian suddenly start poking fun at their own faith and others who practice it? Is this some sort of new coolness that these folks who claim to be Christian are attempting to bolster? Or, are they self-doubting Christians — modern day Peters (deniers) and Thomases (doubting) … each distancing themselves from others who hold the faith these folks claim to themselves hold?
It’s clear Ms. Eaton can’t stand Sen. Obama, and that in her revulsion she has stooped so low as to attack his church on several occasions. Could it be that [gasp] partisans like Ms. Eaton are only acting Christian to the extent that they have no use for actual Christians who espouse differing political viewpoints? Gee, ya think.

Its a cartoon posted in a newspaper that they are hot linking from. Where did you go off the deep end?
Who wants to be King? Sure does sound like Obama wants it. How about his Carbon based tax? Like you need a new tax on your natural gas this winter. I spent around 1000 last year on heat. Now with the prices going up, and cook county talking about more taxes on nat gas, you got the “obama” saying more taxes on Carbon Based Natural Gas. YOu want to be a king, control a mans heat in his family home for winter.
With taxes on everything going up, per democrats around here, he you got another democrat asking for more.
That is what you bash him on. Not his religion.

Re-read your first sentence and your last one.
You contradict yourself, C-Rock. (The cartoon was poking fun of his faith — Christianity.)

C-Rock,
A great many conservatives and Republicans understand the concept of global warming and agree with the notion of a carbon tax. Conservative pundit and local radio host Bruno Behrend agrees with the idea (in general). I don’t know if Republican candidate Gov. Mike Huckabee agrees with a carbon tax but he has been forceful in standing up for national energy independence.
You keep complaining about your short-term expenses. Haven’t you ever thought about long-term consequences for our actions? We pay a couple of pennies extra on every gallon of gas so that we can repair existing roads and pave new ones when we need them. Would you rather pay a $50 toll at the end of your driveway every morning to make up the difference if we got rid of the gas tax?
As far as it being just a cartoon in a paper … if it was so worthless, why did Illinois Review publish it on their blog? And you clearly misunderstood Sen. Obama’s allusion to Christendom…. (whether or not the cartoonist also misunderstood it or deliberately put down the Christian faith to get a laugh at Christians’ expense I can’t say).

Its a Cartoon dude. I do not see your point on bashing him on his christian views. He does want to be king. The president in the USA is some way a king. Example, a king can declare war. GWB can declare war on Iran, anytime he wants to. Obama and the democrats gave him that power. Now he want that power, and is working for it to have in 08.
The president has his own personal army of thousands that follows him around. Just like a King has his own guard.
Having a warm house is wrong? Not wasting money on taxes for heat is wrong? That money is forced from me, because I need heat in the winter. That is wrong. I need to drive, cause I need food, I need to work.
I do think of my actions. I took some time this summer to check the chaulk around the windows and such this summer. Had to get the ladder out, and do some work.
This next couple of weeks, I have to spend money on insulation, and more time in the attic over the garage to insulate more the foyer area of the house. Plus going into the attic on the main part of the house, and seeing what I need to get more R up there. Plus I am finally replacing three of the outside wooden doors, with fiberglass insulated doors. I am hoping I get some savings, but at least keep costs inline. Taxing me more, stops me from doing such. Either the money goes to todd strogers army of government workers, or it goes to products that benefit me, like doors.
So its up to each person to make that decision. and changes to help lower their footprint. Not government.
But you want to trust them with energy? We got a war for Oil now, now you want more government in your life?
How about Social Secuirty? That a good idea for government to have? They borrowed from the fund, to get their buddies rich. Plus fight in illegal wars.
How about healthcare? That working well?
The politicans want power, and energy is the next step. You controls someones energy access, and usage, you control their movement. You control their environment.
That is not accepable to alot of patriots in this country. Arent you a patriot?

It’s a wonder you can get yourself out of bed in the morning, C-Rock.
Obama wasn’t in the Senate at the time of the force authorization resolution and he spoke out forcefully against it as a candidate.
You really think you can revise history that we all just lived through a few years back? Weak.
PS – If you can’t see the irony and hypocrisy in a bunch of self-proclaimed “Christians” (Illinois Review) mocking a Christian by posting a cartoon mocking Christianity then you’re too far gone to understand much.
PPS – That money you invest in insulation and weatherproofing will reap savings in the long-term, which was my point in the first comment.

I get up bight and early Rob. I got to pay by bills, and keep a roof over my head. Plus I like making things happen. I enjoy the fruits of my labor, and believe each man should enjoy them first, not government.
Obama, and the democrats gave Bush the power to attack Iran after the 06 elections. That is well known. I am not talking about Iraq. Plus Obama believes in attacking the pakis if it came down to it.
Your point is government. It is your standard fallback. Government should do this, governments realize this, and governments should take control. There is nothing you do not believe in, which would be to limit government. Sometimes I wonder why folks on the left are afraid of letting others make their own decisons, and reaping what they sow.

The Iran resolution was sponsored by Sen. Joe Lieberman. He left the Democratic party last year and is now an “Independent”.
Sen. Obama didn’t vote on that resolution so how can you say he “gave Bush the power” on it?
As for attacking bin Laden and al Quaeda, yes, Sen. Obama has said he would destroy them given the opporunity. He can’t help it that they are housed in Pakistan.
But nowhere — nowhere — did he ever say he would attack Pakistan which is why you’ve never been able to provide a reference to back up your false claims.
In other words, stop lying, C-Rock.
I make my own decisions C-Rock — at the ballot box.

Obama is a Christian? I thought he attended a Madrassa, and is a militant Muslim–don’t you read the Washington Times?
That’s another of my attempts at humor, by the way.

Dude, get yer revisionalist history straight. That was Fox News … who blamed some right-wing magazine no one’s ever heard of … who blamed (drumroll, please) the Clintons …
It always comes back to the Clintons for that there vast right-wing conspiracy … the cons would blame FDR’s programs on the Clintons if they could figure out a way to do it.

My mistake, but isn’t Insight Magazine (the magazine no one has heard of) published by the Washington Times, or aren’t they both owned by the Unification Church–there’s some tie, I’m pretty sure.
Anyway, the Washington Times makes Fox News look balanced in comparison.

On point one I believe you are correct. Insight’s owned by the Moonies.
On point two you get a buzzer. Nothing makes Fox look balanced… even the fewer and fewer “Democratic-leaning” gabbers buy into the con arguments and end up advancing the Republican bias (not to mention the coordination with the Republican party, the reiteration of conservative talking points du jour, the hackneyed defense of con partisans even when they’re clearly erroneous, etc).

You’re probably right–to be honest, I almost never catch any Fox News, for the most part, so it probably didn’t make much sense for me to opine about it, although I do occasionally read a Washington Times story (good for a chuckle occasionally)–it’s hard for me to imagine a purveyor of “news” being much farther right than that.
Oh, and I checked to confirm–on the Washington Times website, under “Affiliates,” you’ll find “Insight Magazine,” where the Obama/madrassa story “broke” first.

That’s a good point. Fran Eaton did work for Alan Keyes and there was never a guy who pretended to speak more for the “true” faith than Alan Keyes. His campaign was all about religeon and he was the Messiah sent to save Illinois from the selfish hedonists. But the Messiah turned out to be a liar. Remember how he said during the campaign he was really establishing residence and would stay, win or lose? He hasn’t been heard from in Illinois since that horrible election.

Kurt, Google “CPAC” sometime… They’re John Birch Society on steroids — and all the GOP prez candidates went to the annual conference to kowtow and kiss-ass.

Speaking of neo-con “Christian sharia,” how about Ann Coulter’s desire to “perfect” Jews?
She would cause me to be embarrassed to be a mammal, if I didn’t think I could make a good case for denying that she is one.

There are quite a few arch-conservative Christian literalists who hold the same view, based on their word-for-word literal interpretation of the Bible.
Then again, Coulter does it just to sell books in the same way Britney goes around without undies in order to sell more albums.

Yeah–I never have managed to figure out if Coulter actually believes what she spews, or just has a good eye for what pays the bills for her.
Then again, Coulter does it just to sell books in the same way Britney goes around without undies in order to sell more albums.
I suppose I should be grateful that Coulter (to my knowledge) doesn’t do that.

The leather dominatrix outfits seem to be about the extent of it… Then again, Ms. Coulter does have that prominent adam’s apple in the first place so maybe that why she keeps her skivvies on, thankfully.

Tamika,
How dare you call me and my patriotic friends, several of whom gave their own blood for our great nation, anti-American.
How dare you claim, with absolutely no evidence whatsoever, that a sitting United States Senator is in league with terrorists or somehow less than patriotic.
How dare you act so vile, so pathetic and spray so much venom for purely partisan political chits.
If all you’ve got left are lies and bullshit — you just end up wallowing in your own stink.
Drop those scales from your eyes friend. Try talking about issues instead.
PS: You’ve found the “PATRIOTIC AMERICANS” — we’re right here working to make our country better. You, unfortunately, offer up only your hate and disgusting ad hominem crap.
