Backyard Conservative (and others) today make a big deal of Rep. Jeff Flake’s (R-AZ) little victory in the House whereby earmarks will be presented before votes, rather than afterward. This allows Congressmen to review the pork.
Too bad Rep. Flake and those who share his mindset were never able to rein in the rampant pork layouts which exploded under the Republican’s hypocritical decade-plus rule. Backyard Conservative may want to ask himself why it is that the Republicans had to raise the nation’s debt ceiling limit while they had the majority… Then he can ask himself why Republicans thought it was ok to keep piling more and more debt on the backs of our children, all while shoveling over boatloads of interest payments to Communist China and terrorist-funding Saudi Arabia…
That the Democrats came to their senses on this issue, albeit with prodding from the opposing party, is no surprise. That conservatives continue to support Republicans after their years of hypocrisy on fiscal matters is a surprise.

The Washington Repubs were clearly for pork before they were against it.
For all those partisan conservatives who want to demonize Dems regarding pork, Rep. Obey (a Dem) has in fact changed the practice to make it more open and visible even it took this push from Rep. Flake (R). Keep in mind the Republican leadership ignored Flake when he made similar moves when his party had the majority.
